The site is very similar to other job boards and job seeking sites with the addition of secondary “soft” skills and interests which are then filtered through AI and human supervision to add means of distinguishing one candidate from another. This data would be refined over time with AI analysis of thousands of candidates and placements.

For example over time data could show that entry level candidates for a job in a law office mailroom who had been on a high school debate team tended to perform better once placed there, or perhaps candidates who played high school football did well as a construction worker. As the recruiter created the job listing the AI would recommend traits that had proven successful on previous listings allowing the human hirer to opt in or out of the recommendations.

The AI would also scour resumes looking for common traits and interests from successful placements to better feed the data. The complete results would be boiled down to a “Match Score”; a percentage of match quality to better allow the hirer to sort and approach applicants that they wish to interview. The system has a functional contact option allowing the hirer to sort the top 10 scores and automatically invite them for an interview. I those did not pass muster they could then invite the next 10 scores. All the while the AI would be processing the success/failure rates to best adjust the algorithm and in time the results would be better and better.

Of course should this project be adopted the data and computational resources would be considerable. A lot of the innitial data would have to be based on logical assumptions rather than actual proven facts and to do it right a lot of research would have to be done with recruiters and hiring managers as to their process and what they look at in an entry level employee. However given enough time and resources this could turn in to the tool that all hirers of entry level employees need.

The Solution

The Problem

The recruitment process for entry-level candidates is difficult given that many resumes look similar due to a lack of experience. Sifting through candidates and scheduling interviews is tedious and is compounded by the fact that it is difficult to differentiate good candidates from an ordinary one.

How might we showcase the relative strengths of candidates and rapidly schedule them for interviews?

Finding a first time job is hard, but...

Everyone knows it’s tough finding your first real job. You’ve worked part time as a barista or fast food worker through high school or college and now you want to launch your career but have little relevant experience. Grinding through the job market as a young adult is a painful right of passage and there are any number of resources to aid them online.

That said spare a kind thought for the hapless hiring manager who wants to bring in some young blood. How do you choose a quality entry level employee when you are buried under an avalanche of essentially identical resumes? With no relevant work experience all young people resort to listing sports, clubs, volunteer activities, and other interest. Do you hire the volleyball player or the marching band trumpeter? GPA might be a factor but does study ability really speak to someones ability to work in a team?

A Foot in the Door - a website built to aid prospective employees find entry level positions that can lead to a career. Our team, however, was not tasked with helping the applicants but rather with helping the HR and Hiring Managers sift through the dozens of sparse resumes and find the candidate that most meets their needs.
